This hand painted wooden ornament is based on medieval design located in the Makaravank Monastery in the Tavush Province of Armenia, which dates back to the 13th century. This monastery features many interesting designs including the 8 pointed star and other motifs such as fishes, birds, sphinxes and sirens.

 

This ornament features the octagonal star and the fish designs present throughout the monastery.

 

They are produced at the Koghb Art School in Armenia by eight artisans from the local area.

  • After graduating from university in Yerevan, Anna Nasibyan returned to Koghb, a border village in the Tavush province in Armenia. She started to teach painting at a local art school and then founded  the Yeregnuk Handicraft Group with Arusyak Pashikyan and Satenik Dulijanyan. The Group consists of eight core artisans.
